Configuring Workstation Cache

Use the Hybrid Mode option to maintain smooth scrolling and window level interactions in a low-bandwidth environment. When you turn on Hybrid Mode, Synapse caches images to your workstation, providing smooth scrolling and interactive operations without delays.

When Hybrid Mode is turned on, you can delay the cine Auto-play function to allow adequate time to download an image by selecting the On cache complete (requires Hybrid Mode) option for the Auto-play setting. For additional information see Configuring Cine Settings.

Note:

  • Hybrid mode in Synapse versions 7.x or higher is not backward compatible with version 5.5 or earlier. Images will be rendered on the server.
  • The Hybrid Mode setting is required for Worklist subscription.
  • If you turn off Hybrid Mode, you will also turn off the Worklist subscription, and the Subscribe option will be grayed out in the Worklist submenu.
  • If you have multiple applications running or have multiple tabs open in the browser, the available memory may be impacted by the use of these resources.
  • If you select the Optimize Network Usage setting with Hybrid Mode, Hybrid Mode uses clinical PNG images. Synapse uses clinical JPEG images for images that are not cached on Hybrid Mode.
  • Hybrid Mode requires 10GB of available cache memory space on the configured hard drive.

The following features do not benefit from the use of Hybrid Mode:

  • Synapse 3D
  • MIP
  • MPR
  • Fusion

Prerequisites

You must have the latest version of Hybrid Mode Component installed on your workstation to use Hybrid Mode. See your System Administrator for more information.

Steps

  • Modify the following settings as needed.
  • Setting

    Description

    Enable Hybrid Mode

If selected, Synapse displays a progress indicator showing the percentage of images that are cached to your browser memory. When caching completes, the progress indicator no longer displays, and you can interact smoothly with the series.

This setting is selected by default.

    Workstation Settings

    Workstation Cache Location:

    • If this editable field is empty (which is the default value), Synapse uses the enterprise values.
    • If configured, values will override the enterprise values for the workstation, regardless of the user.

Hybrid Ports: If this editable field is empty, Synapse uses the enterprise values. If configured, values will override the enterprise values for the workstation, regardless of the user.

This setting is not populated by default.

Note: If you select a custom cache location, the permissions for that folder will be different from the AppData folder and will allow other users to access files from their windows profiles.

    Enterprise Settings

Workstation Cache Location: Unless the location has a custom cache already configured, the default location is: %LocalAppData%\FujifilmMedicalSystems\SynapseHybrid

Hybrid Ports: Default ports are 1080 and 10443 for HTTP and HTTPS, respectively. However, when the HTTPS port is 10443, Synapse and Synapse Hybrid still use HTTP to communicate. To use HTTPS, change the port to 10443.

    Note:

    • Synapse creates the default folder automatically from the configured path.
    • A System Administrator must edit these settings, and these settings can only be applied at the enterprise level.

Results

Synapse automatically saves any updated options and displays the following message in the bottom left corner of the window: Successfully saved.

Synapse displays the following message that you must take the following action to apply the settings: Refresh the Synapse browser window for settings to apply.
