Reserving Studies in a Multiple Data Source Environment

If you are using a multiple data source (MDS) environment, you can reserve studies from different data sources in the Unread Studies Global Worklist or any other study-based Global Worklist. You can reserve studies for yourself (see Reserving an Unread Study for Yourself) or for users from different data sources.

When you select a study to reserve for another user, that user must be active on the study data source and have the reservation privilege. For example, assume that data source A (DSA) has User1, User2, and User3, and data source B (DSB) has User3, User4, and User5. When you select a study from DSA, you can reserve it for User1, User2, and User3. When you select a study from DSB, you can reserve it for User3, User4, and User5. When you select a mix of studies from DSA and DSB, you can only reserve them for User3 because User3 is shared across both data sources.

Note:

  • Shared users must have the same first name, last name, and user name on each data source.
  • Synapse supports this functionality for data sources that are on version 7.2 and above.
  • The option to reserve an unread study for another user is only available if you have appropriate permissions. See your System Administrator for more information.
  • The user you select in the Assign To text box is the default option for the remainder of your session.
  • You can reserve multiple studies with one action. However, the selected studies must be unreserved. You cannot reserve a mix of reserved and unreserved studies.

Note:

For Synapse 7.1 and subsequent releases, Synapse supports updating study reservations for multiple studies and all associated accession numbers returned by PowerScribe when either Reserve for Me or Reserve for Others dictation options are enabled for the data source for the current study. The All Reservations and All Reservations Global worklists include all of the reserved associated studies.

  1. Display the Source column if needed. See Modifying Columns.
  2. Right-click the study to display the context menu.
  3. Select Reservations. The Reservations dialog box displays.
  4. Optional: To reserve multiple unread studies, press and hold the CTRL key, select the studies you want to reserve, right-click, and select Reservations.
  5. Start typing the user name in the Assign To text box. Search results display.
  6. Select the correct user from the search results.
  7. Optional: Hover over the Assign To text box to view a tooltip that displays the user’s user name.
  8. Change the Duration, leave it as is, or select No Expiration. You can set the Days field to a maximum of 30 and the Hours field to a maximum of 23. The default duration is configured in SWAT.

  10. Click Save to reserve the study.
