Configuring Annotations Settings

You can customize Annotations settings to have several different options for saving annotations. For example, you can:

Choose to automatically display previously saved annotations when you open a study.
Change a measurement unit, the number of significant digits that display in a measurement, and the Standard Uptake Values (SUV).

You can configure the following settings in the Annotations settings tab:

Steps

Modify the following settings as needed.
Optional: When you finish configuring all settings, click Close

Annotations Settings

Setting	Description
Enable annotations	If selected, Synapse displays saved annotations when you open a study. Clearing the check box hides saved annotations when you open a study. This setting is selected by default. Note: Enabling or disabling this setting does not affect the display of AI GSPS annotations.
Enable GSPS annotations	If selected, when you open a study, third-party GSPS annotations display. This setting is selected by default. Note: Selecting or clearing this setting does not affect the display of AI GSPS annotations.
Enable auto bookmarking	If selected, you can automatically bookmark an image when you add an annotation. Note: If you do not save the annotation, Synapse removes the bookmark. This setting is cleared by default.
Default length units	Select a measurement unit: mm (default setting) cm inch
Precision of display number	You can change the number of significant digits that display in the length, area, and density measurements. Select the significant digits for the Precision of display number setting: 3 (default setting) 4 Note: The number of significant digits is the same for length and area versus density. However, if the length or area measurement is more than 10, the decimal point of the length or area measurement is the setting minus one. See the following examples: Length and Area Example: If you have a length measurement of 12.314, Synapse displays the following: For a setting of 3, Synapse displays 12.31. For a setting of 4, Synapse 12.314. Density Example: For a setting of 3, Synapse displays 12.3. For a setting of 4, Synapse displays 12.31.
SUV correction method	You can change the SUV correction method for PET modalities. Synapse supports the SUV correction methods listed below. The default SUV type is Body weight. Select an SUV type from the SUV correction method drop-down list: Body weight (BW) is calculated as the decay-corrected tissue concentration divided by the injected dose per body weight. r is the decay-corrected tissue concentration a' is the injected dose w is the body weight Lean body mass (LBM) is calculated as the decay-corrected tissue concentration divided by the injected dose per lean body mass. r is the decay-corrected tissue concentration a’ is the injected dose LBM is calculated for: Females: Males: Note: A parameter of 120 rather than 128 is used in the Lean Body Mass calculation for males. This propagates a common error with SUV normalization that originated from Morgan DJ, Bray KM. Lean Body Mass as a Predictor of Drug Dosage: Implications for Drug Therapy. Clinical Pharmacokinetics. 1994;26(4):292–307 but is necessary for backward compatibility. Annotation Type Settings

When you initially open the Annotations settings page, Circle displays along with a list of available circle annotations.

Each of the other annotation types have a different list of available and selected measurements.

Setting	Description
Annotation type	Select an annotation type from the drop-down list: Circle Elliptical ROI 2-point ROI Polygonal ROI Freehand ROI Rectangle ROI
Available annotations	After you select an annotation type, select the measurements that will display: In the Available combo box, select all the measurements you want to display when you create that annotation. TIP: Press the CTRL key for multiple selections. Click the right arrow to move your selections to the Selected combo box. Click the left arrow to remove a selection from the Selected combo box.
Selected annotations display order	Move a selected measurement higher or lower in the Selected combo box list: Click the up arrow to move a selected measurement higher in the list. Check the down arrow to move a selected measurement lower in the list.

Available annotations

After you select an annotation type, select the measurements that will display:

In the Available combo box, select all the measurements you want to display when you create that annotation.
- TIP: Press the CTRL key for multiple selections.
Click the right arrow to move your selections to the Selected combo box.
Click the left arrow to remove a selection from the Selected combo box.

Selected annotations display order

Move a selected measurement higher or lower in the Selected combo box list:

Click the up arrow to move a selected measurement higher in the list.
Check the down arrow to move a selected measurement lower in the list.

Results

Synapse automatically saves any updated options and displays the following message in the bottom left corner of the window: Successfully saved.

Synapse displays the following message that you must take the following action to apply the settings: Refresh the Synapse browser window for settings to apply.
